Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television reporter, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. The year 1981 saw her begin working for the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, as well as arms control. Mitchell travelled along with President Ronald Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss issues like the Iran Contra controversy.
